Fiorentina have sealed the signing of defender Marcos Alonso on a three-year contract on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers.

Alonso, who joined the English club from Real Madrid following a three-year spell at the Bernabeu, has opted to move to the Stadio Artemio Franchi after his contract with the Championship club expired.

The Spaniard was a mainstay for Bolton last season, but was unable to help the club secure a return to the Premier League as they missed out on the play-offs on the final day of the campaign.
However, the left-back can now look forward to UEFA Europa League football next term after agreeing to join Vincenzo Montella’s side.
A statement on the Fiorentina website read: “ACF Fiorentina has signed Spanish wing-back Marcos Alonso Mendoza.
“The player will be presented to the press in due course but in the meantime Alonso has passed his medical and been given the all-clear to sign his contract.

“He can look forward to being part of Vincenzo Montella’s Fiorentina from 1 July 2013.”

Alonso made 30 appearances in all competitions for Bolton last term, scoring four goals.
