Marching towards their sixth Serie A crown, a high-flying Flamengo will welcome Vasco da Gama to Rio de Janeiro in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Starting with the hosts, battling from behind to land a 3-1 win over Bahia on Sunday, Flamengo have firmly cemented their spot as this year’s standout performer. Already with one hand on the Serie A title and continuing to shine in the second half of the season, Jorge Jesus’ men currently find themselves enjoying a 23-match unbeaten run that stems all the way back to the 4th of August. With a growing reputation for their lethal showings in the final third, the former Benfica boss will be most impressed by his side’s continued showings in Rio de Janeiro. The runaway leaders have won their last five matches on home soil and have not tasted Serie A defeat in front of their own supporters since December 2018.

As for the visitors, while Vasco da Gama may have managed to pick up a routine 3-0 win over relegation scrappers CSA on Sunday, it does no cover what has been an inconsistent second half of the campaign. With just a sole victory to their name over the past month, Head Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo finds his men on the verge of losing their spot in the Copa Sudamericana. Thursday’s guests will also be worried by their most recent meeting against the runaway Serie A leaders. When the two sides met back in August they were hammered 4-1.
