Looking to try and make up some ground in the title chase, Flamengo will welcome Juventude to the Maracanã late on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, managing to lay down what was a real marker over the weekend, Flamengo still have their sights firmly set on making a late charge to reclaim their Serie A crown. Still holding a pair of games in hand and smelling a real chance to make up some ground in midweek, the defending champions were last seen landing a very impressive 3-0 romp away at Fortaleza. Continuing to shine with their performances in the final third, a run highlighted by another 3-0 win against Athletico Paranaense earlier in the month, Head Coach Renato Gaúcho will be desperate for his side to keep up that momentum. Knowing that they have a real chance on Wednesday, it should also be highlighted that Flamengo have won five of their last six matchups across all formats at the Maracanã, a run that stems back to the start of August.

As for the visitors, while Flamengo might be battling it out at the top of the table, Juventude find themselves enduring their own scrap at the opposite end. In a real battle to avoid being hit with an immediate Serie B return this year, Marquinhos Santos’ men have gained a reputation for their inconsistencies. Looking over their shoulder at the drop zone and facing a stern trip to the Maracanã in midweek, Papo have managed to win just one of their last 10 straight matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to August 14th. Last seen on their travels getting hit with a 3-1 drumming away at Sport Recife, it’s also worth highlighting that the relegation contenders have recorded just a single away win all season. Given the recent gulf in class, it is hard to see anything other than a routine home victory in midweek.
