Looking to lay down what would be a marker on home soil, Fluminense will welcome Fortaleza to the Maracanã in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Starting with the hosts, while Fluminense might have endured a torrid run of form when heading into August, Tricolor have bounced back in an eye-catching fashion. With it appearing that their Copa do Brasil defeat against Atlético Mineiro last month was just a minor blip, Head Coach Marcão finds his side enjoying a Serie A purple patch. Last seen over the weekend picking up an impressive 2-1 victory against RB Bragantino on home soil, Fluminense are unbeaten in each of their last seven top-flight contests, a run that stems back to August 18th. Knowing that they have a real chance to lay down another marker on Thursday, the hosts will also be boosted by their continued success on home soil. Including that 2-1 win last weekend, Tricolor are unbeaten on Serie A duties at the Maracanã since the middle of July.

As for the visitors, while Fortaleza might still find themselves leading the chase in the top-four, they are in the midst of what has become an extended sluggish patch. Putting in another worrying display over the weekend, Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s side were blown away thanks to a 3-0 drumming against Atlético Goianiense on home soil. In fact, along with managing to muster just three points from their last five Serie A contests, it should also be noted that the Ceará-based outfit have landed just a single top-flight win since way back on August 8th. Expecting what could be a tough trip when they travel to a high-flying Fluminense in midweek, Fortaleza should also be worried by their last trip to the Maracanã. Hit with a 2-0 loss when they last faced off against Thursday’s hosts on the road, we’re backing a home victory.
