Competition: League Two

Market: Forest Green Rovers win

Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport

In a real battle between two sides scrapping it out at opposite ends of the League Two table, Forest Green will welcome Southend to the New Lawn on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, certainly picking up another eye-catching victory on the road over the weekend, the mood in Forest Green’s camp should be at a real high. Sat in pole position to secure a maiden League One campaign this year, the Gloucestershire outfit picked up a deserved 2-0 victory away at play-off contenders Newport on Sunday lunchtime. Opening up the midweek fixtures holding a five-point buffer from dropping out of the automatic spots, Mark Cooper’s men have won each of their last three fourth-tier matchups on the bounce. Knowing that they have a golden chance to extend on their recent purple patch in midweek, it should also be highlighted that Forest Green have collected a hugely impressive 13 points from their last five League Two contests.

As for the visitors, while Forest Green might find themselves firmly mixing it in the promotion chase, Southend are in a real battle to hang onto their Football League status this year. Slumping back to losing ways over the weekend and hit with a 1-0 defeat against Bolton at Roots Hall, the Essex outfit hold just a one-point buffer from dropping back into the relegation zone. With it appearing that their shock 1-0 victory away at Newport earlier in the month was just a minor bounce, the Shrimpers have won just one of their last eight League Two contests, a run that stems back to January 9th. With that recent run highlighted by a woeful 5-1 drumming away at Port Vale last month, it should also be noted that Southend suffered a 1-0 loss when they hosted Forest Green back in November.
