Knowing they could officially book their spot in the play-offs on Thursday, Girona will make the trip to the Estadio La Rosaleda when they face off against Malaga.

Starting with the hosts, while Malaga might have found themselves a much-needed boost when opening April, it appears that was just a minor bounce for the Andalusia-based outfit. Dealing with a string of financial issues behind the scenes at the Estadio La Rosaleda, the former La Liga side almost find themselves stuck in Segunda limbo. Last seen earlier in the week when putting in another worrying display, Head Coach Sergio Pellicer saw his squad suffer a deserved 1-0 lose away at Real Oviedo on Monday. Facing what should be another stern test when the play-off contenders come to town in midweek, Malaga are currently in the midst of a five-match winless run in Spain’s second-tier, mustering just a pair of points. It’s also worth highlighting that Los Albicelestes have recorded just a single victory in any of their last five home fixtures.

As for the visitors, while Malaga might find themselves in the midst of an extended blip, the mood in Girona’s camp should be at a real high. Knowing that victory on the road in midweek could see them wrap up another play-off spot with time to spare, Blanquivermells have hit form at what is a crucial time. Last seen landing another eye-catching 1-0 victory against fellow top-seven contenders Sporting Gijón on Monday, Francisco’s side have won each of their last five Segunda contests on the spin and have gained a string of admirers for their rugged displays at the back. More impressive, smelling another golden chance on their travels this week, Girona have lost just one of their previous 11 second-tier matchups, a run that stems all the way back to March 7th.
