Godin going nowhere

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has dismissed speculation that Diego Godin could be set to join Manchester United, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League giants had been linked with a £15.8m move for the Uruguay international, though Simeone has no intention in parting company with the centre-back.

United boss Louis van Gaal is desperate to solve his sides defensive problems when the transfer window reopens, but will have to turn his attention elsewhere unless the club can stump up the £28.5m to meet the 28 year olds release clause.

Godin moved to Atleti from Villareal in the summer of 2010, and has gone on to make one hundred and sixty-four appearances for the club, scoring fourteen goals, and winning medals in the league, cup, Europa League and Super Cup while he also played in last season’s Champions League defeat to rivals Real Madrid at the Estadio de Luz in May.
