Competition: International friendly
Market: Greece win
Odds: 8/11 @ 888sport
Looking to build off of their eye-catching display in midweek, Greece will welcome Honduras to the Stadio Toumbas in Thessaloníki on Sunday afternoon for a friendly showdown.
Starting with the hosts, while Greece might have faced an overwhelming test when opening their World Cup qualifying campaign in midweek, the one-time European champions did put in a rugged display. Despite opening their trip to Spain as a landslide underdog, John van’t Schip’s side came from behind to pick up an impressive point on foreign soil. Leaving Getafe with a 1-1 draw to show for their troubles, Ethniki have made a string of improvements since bringing in their Dutch boss. While Greece might have failed to book their spot at this summer’s delayed European Championships, Sunday’s hosts are unbeaten in each of their last 10 competitive fixtures, a run that stems all the way back to October 2019. With the mood in their camp appearing to be on the rise, Greece should be looking to keep up their momentum on home soil this weekend.
As for the visitors, while Honduras might have managed to book a Concacaf Nations League knockout showdown against the USA for later in the year, they certainly face a stern test on foreign soil this weekend. Marking their return from a four-month break with a 1-1 draw away at Belarus in a friendly matchup earlier in the week, Los Catrachos have failed to win any of their three contests since the 2019 group stage. Signing off 2020 with a 2-1 defeat against Guatemala on their travels, Fabián Coito’s side have continued to struggle with their performances on the road. Including that loss in Guatemala back in November, Honduras have managed to win just one of their previous 12 contests on foreign soil, a run that stems all the way back to September 2017. In the first meeting between Sunday’s opponents, we’re backing another tricky test for the away-day strugglers.
