Competition: National League

Market: Grimsby win

Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport

Desperate to try and find a boost this weekend, Grimsby will welcome relegation scrappers Southend to Blundell Park on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Grimsby might still find themselves battling it out at the top of the table, they are in the midst of what has become a nightmare run of form. Suffering a shock 2-1 defeat away at Aldershot on Saturday, the former Football League outfit have remarkably lost each of their last four matchups across all formats. However, handed a golden chance when a struggling Southend come to town this weekend, the Lincolnshire-based outfit should at least be boosted by their success at Blundell Park. Aside from a close-fought 1-0 loss when they hosted fellow play-off contenders Notts County last month, Grimsby have won six of their previous seven matchups in front of their own supporters. With that run highlighted by a 3-1 win against Wrexham, there is no doubt that Friday’s hosts will be desperate to find a boost here.

As for the visitors, after losing their Football League status earlier in the year, Southend suddenly find the prospect of back-to-back relegations really on the cards. Dealing with a host of issues both on and off the pitch, the Shrimpers were last seen putting in another hugely worrying display. Hit with a 2-0 defeat against Woking on home soil, Kevin Maher’s side are firmly battling it out at the foot of the National League table. Failing to bounce back from that 3-1 drumming at the hands of Chesterfield on November 6th, the Essex-based outfit have now lost eight of their last 10 fifth-tier matchups. Likewise, last seen on their travels getting hit with a 1-0 defeat against Boreham Wood, it should be noted that Southend have also lost each of their last five contests away from Roots Hall.
