Football is an unpredictable game at the best of times but every now and then, you can see things coming from a mile away – and that’s especially true when it comes to the transfer window.
Whether it be in the summer or the winter, big time moves tend to be planned quite heavily in advance with the rumour mill churning out speculation at every available opportunity. This time around, in the last couple of weeks, there’s been a notable exodus for two of German football’s finest in the form of their biggest and best strikers.
Bayern Munich sold the great Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona in a move that, from the Pole’s perspective, had been a long time coming. Across the country we also saw the special Erling Haaland swap Germany for England as he linked up with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Today, we’re going to take a look at how these decisions may impact both Bayern and Dortmund in terms of how they’ve been able to replace them.
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich already had a handful of strong attacking options at their disposal with the hope of replacing Lewandowski in the right way, and now, they’ve got another – Sadio Mane. The former Liverpool man made the switch over fairly early in the transfer window and while they’ll probably have to change the way they operate up top especially with Muller, this new look Bayern could be interesting, even if they don’t manage to lure Harry Kane over from Spurs just yet.
Borussia Dortmund
The blend of experience and youthful quality is what Borussia Dortmund needed to find given that they’re losing someone like Haaland – although you could be forgiven for thinking Jude Bellingham can make up the difference all on his own. They were able to bring in Sebastien Haller but in a sad piece of news this week, it’s been revealed that he has a testicular tumour with treatment required. As he begins that part of his journey, Dortmund will look to Karim Adeyemi as another new face who could make a splash.
