Competition: League One
Market: Hull City win
Odds: 3/2 @ 888sport
Opening the weekend fixtures in Lancashire on Friday night, a high-flying Hull will be looking to make another statement when they travel to Fleetwood this week.
Starting with the hosts, while Fleetwood might have made it no secret that have their sights set on another play-off finish this season, it has been a far from ideal start for Joey Barton’s men. Although they did manage to land a much-welcomed boost after picking up a 3-0 win against Aston Villa U21’s on EFL Trophy duties in midweek, the former Newcastle midfielder has seen his side come crashing back down to earth after marking the New Year with a 2-1 win against Burton last month. Last seen on League One duties watching Rochdale snatch a last-gasp winner at the Crown Oil Arena, Fleetwood have lost each of their last three third-tier appearances on the bounce and they have continued to show some rather worrying issues at the back. Also watching Everton put five past them in the EFL Cup last month, the Reds could be in for a tricky test on Friday night.
As for the visitors, while Hull might have lost their Championship status in almost comical fashion over the summer, few would have expected what has been a stunning start for the Tigers. Electing to keep faith with Head Coach Grant McCann, the former Premier League outfit once again impressed as they secured a 1-0 win against play-off chasers Plymouth last time out. Suddenly with the mood in the KCOM on the rise, Friday’s guests have won all four of their opening League One appearances this season and are one of just two sides who can boast a 100% start to proceedings. Looking to extend on their purple patch on the road this week, McCann will undeniably be most excited by his side’s new-found resolve at the back. Recording yet another clean sheet last time out, Hull are remarkably yet to pick the ball out of their own net since opening the 2020/2021 campaign.
