Inter Milan are close to agreeing personal terms with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin, according to Sky Sport’s Italian sources. The experienced centre-back has six months remaining on his current contract, and with no new deal in place, he is free to negotiate a move away in the summer.
Having spent five years playing in his homeland for Cerro and Nacional, the Uruguay international moved to Spain in 2007 as he signed for Villarreal. The years later, he made his move to the capital and joined Atletico. Since then, he has made over 360 appearances in their shirt in all competitions and scored 24 goals. He won one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey trophy, the Europa League twice, and played in two Champions League finals. He also has 125 caps for Uruguay under his belt.
The 32-year-old was a target for Manchester United last summer, but the deal never materialized. He is now set to sign a two-year deal with Inter, with an option of a 12-month extension.
