With the chance to potentially climb to the top of the League One table, Ipswich will make the trip to Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Blackpool might have opened the New Year with some in their camp dreaming of a play-off charge, it has been a worrying start for fans around Bloomfield Road. Hit with a penalties defeat against Accrington Stanley on EFL Trophy duties earlier in the week, the Oranges already find themselves scrapping it out in the League One drop zone. Last seen on third-tier duties throwing away the lead twice and shipping a pair of strikes in the final three minutes against Lincoln last weekend, it appears that Blackpool’s 2-0 win against Swindon last month could have been just a minor bounce. In the midst of a three-match losing run across all competitions, Saturday’s hosts could be in for another tough afternoon’s work in Lancashire, despite being seen as a surprise favourite with the bookmakers.

As for the visitors, while Ipswich might have been disappointed to have only left MK Dons with a point to show for themselves, it has been an eye-catching start to the New Year for the East Anglia outfit. One of just four sides who are still yet to taste defeat since opening the 2020/2021 campaign, many in the third-tier see the Trotters as a real contender to secure a Championship return this time around. Putting in another professional display in midweek picking up a 2-0 win against Gillingham while on EFL Trophy duties at Portman Road, Paul Lambert’s side should be confident of extending on their purple patch this weekend. Landing a 2-0 win when they opened this year’s campaign away at Bristol Rovers, don’t be surprised to see a high-flying Ipswich leave with something to show for themselves.
