January 19th: Sunday’s English Double – 5/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

With both of the Manchester giants featuring on Sunday afternoon, we have a stacked English schedule on the cards.

Alongside four Premier League showdowns, Leeds will also look to extend on their Championship title charge when they host Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Ahead of a stacked Sunday schedule, we have taken a look at two of the most appealing English betting markets that are available.

12:00 Leeds vs Sheffield Wednesday

While Leeds might have opened the New Year with consecutive Championship stalemates against Blackburn and Hull, Daniel Farke’s side are pencilled in as a leading promotion contender in 2025. Getting this weekend’s fixtures underway leading the chase at the top of the Championship table, Sunday’s hosts have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous 13 appearances across all competitions. Despite playing out a 1-1 draw against Blackburn in their most recent showdown at Elland Road, Leeds have gained a real reputation for their success on home soil. Including a stellar 3-1 victory against Middlesbrough last month, the former Norwich boss has seen his squad register 28 points from their previous 10 Championship battles in Yorkshire. Likewise, landing a 2-0 victory when they travelled to Hillsborough for their reverse showdown on August 23rd, Leeds should be smelling a golden opportunity this weekend.

Although Sheffield Wednesday might have continued to gain a string of plaudits this season, the Owls are seeking some recent stability. Signing off 2024 with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Preston, Danny Rohl’s side have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous five appearances across all competitions. Suffering FA Cup heartbreak away at Coventry last weekend, Sunday’s guests have continued to show some worrying defensive struggles. Last seen in Championship action playing out a thrilling 2-2 stalemate against Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday have shipped 10 goals in just their previous four second-tier showdowns. It should also be noted, Rohl’s camp have recorded just a single clean sheet from any of their last 10 matchups across all competitions. Likewise, conceding a trio of goals in their back-to-back defeats away from Hillsborough, it is no surprise that Wednesday are pencilled in as a major underdog when they travel across Yorkshire.

14:00 Nottingham Forest vs Southampton

While Nottingham Forest might have spent the whole of last season looking over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap, Sunday’s hosts have embarked on a sensational rise this time around. Only continuing to cement their spot as Europe’s ultimate surprise package this year, Nuno Espirito Santo finds the mood in his camp at a famous high. Snatching a point against runaway leaders Liverpool earlier in the week, Forest are currently sat in bronze medal spot and are dreaming of punching an iconic Champions League ticket in 2025. Collecting some heavyweight Premier League scalps this season, the former Tottenham boss has seen his high-flying squad muster 19 points from their previous seven top-flight showdowns. Getting the New Year underway with a stellar 3-0 romp away at Wolves, there is no doubt that Santo’s top-four contenders will be smelling a golden opportunity at the City Ground this weekend.

Suffering a heartbreaking last-gasp collapse away at Manchester United on Thursday night as they eventually fell to a 3-1 loss, Southampton could show some real signs of a hangover here. Shipping three goals at Old Trafford in the final 14 minuets, Ivan Juric’s side already have one foot back in the Championship. Remarkably putting just six points on the board so far this season and sat rock-bottom of the table, Sunday’s guests have broken a string of unwanted records this year. Getting 2025 underway with a woeful 5-0 drumming at home against Brentford, the Saints have claimed just a single win from any of their 21 Premier League appearances so far this season. Currently sat 10 points adrift of top-flight safety and seeking what would be remembered as a a stunning great escape, Southampton have also collected just a single point from any of their last four Premier League battles away from St. Mary’s.
