Kone set for Everton switch

Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone has undergone medical with Everton after agreeing a deal to reunite with former boss Roberto Martinez, according to the Mirror.

The Ivory Coast international had also been the subject of a bid from Newcastle United, while Swansea City were also ready to make an offer, though he has opted to move to Merseyside.

Martinez signed Kone from La Liga side Levante last summer, with the 29 year olds goals helping the Latics to FA Cup glory, though he was unable to stop the club dropping out of the top flight after an eight year spell in the Premier League.

The Toffee’s are also set to secure the services of defender Antolin Alcaraz, whose contact with Wigan expired at the end of last season.

The 30 year old, who was also brought to England by Martinez, made seventy-seven appearances for the Latics in three years since joining from Belgian side Club Brugge.
