Laudrup eyes transfer spree

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup is lining up to six potential new signings in the close season, according to assistant Alan Curtis.

Laudrup’s side earned qualification to the Europa League via their League Cup triumph in February and, sitting in ninth place in the Premier League, are already virtually guaranteed a third straight Premier League campaign.

And the former Mallorca coach is now preparing for a recruitment drive that will enable his side to cope with the bloated schedule that comes with competing on the continent, Swansea assistant manager Curtis says.

“I’m sure we will buy in players in the (European) summer,” Curtis told The Mirror. “It’s important to do that irrespective of where you finish. There are plans afoot to bring players in.

“We will have to satisfy the players terms-wise, but I would say we’ll sign quite a few players.

“We could sign four, maybe up to six players in the summer if we can.”

Swansea suffered their third consecutive league loss following the 2-1 home defeat against Tottenham on Saturday, and Curtis has urged the team to respond and finish as high up the table as possible.

“We are all disappointed with the recent results and we’ve hit a mini-slump,” Curtis said.

“The players are on for bonuses on where we finish in the league so it’s important for them financially to finish strongly.

“The boys are well aware every position you go up in the league is worth a fair bit of money. It’s a big motivating factor. We want to win as many games as we can.

“But we have played good sides recently. The performances have been okay, but the results have gone against us, especially against Arsenal and Tottenham.”
