Turning their attentions to EFL Cup duties after their stunning Premier League return over the weekend, Leeds will welcome Hull to an empty Elland Road on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Leeds would have been left heartbroken to have left Anfield with nothing to show on Saturday evening, the Whites really laid down a Premier League marker. Gaining a string of admirers despite leaving the defending champions on the wrong end of a last-gasp 4-3 defeat on their travels, Marcelo Bielsa’s side find the mood in their camp at a real high and will be glad to make a return to home soil in midweek. Romping towards the Championship title earlier in the summer after what was a glittering end to the 2019/2020 campaign, the former Napoli boss saw his side sign off the year with a 4-0 romp against Charlton at Elland Road and also managed to land a staggering 22 points over their final eight matchups in West Yorkshire, a run that saw them land 5-0 and 3-0 victories over Stoke and Fulham.

As for the visitors, while Hull might have managed to open life back in League One with a 2-0 win away at Gillingham over the weekend, the Tigers are still a side dealing with a string of issues. Losing their Championship status in what was woeful fashion earlier in the summer, Grant McCann’s men signed off the year with a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Cardiff and should be in for another overwhelming step up in class when they travel to Elland Road in midweek. Already hit with a 2-1 defeat against Leicester’s U23’s in the EFL Trophy earlier in the month, Hull also hold what is a worrying record against the Premier League returners. Hit for four when they welcomed Leeds to the KCOM back in February, they have lost back-to-back meetings against Bielsa’s side and we’re backing a similar outcome on Wednesday.
