Leicester boss Rodgers unsure over Maddison future

Speaking to the press ahead of his team’s defeat away to Bournemouth earlier today (Saturday), Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers admitted he doesn’t know how the talks over a new contract for James Maddison are progressing at the moment.

Maddison’s contract expires at the end of next season. With the 25-year-old attacking midfielder wanted by one club after another over the last couple of transfer windows, the Foxes’ grip on his services is getting weaker while his form improves. Newcastle United are believed to have had two offers for his services rejected by Leicester this summer, and reports of interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have popped up in the last few days.

Leicester are currently stuck in the relegation zone, and it’s probably fair to say that Rodgers is more concerned about his own future than that of Maddison. Their only win of the season came on Monday, when Maddison struck twice and delivered a fine all-round performance in a 4-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest.
