Leipzig adamant about keeping Gvardiol until 2024

RB Leipzig have no intention of selling in-demand defender Josko Gvardiol this summer, the player himself has revealed following his team’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, and German journalist Florian Plettenberg has confirmed the statement as true since.

The news will have come as a blow for a number of top clubs who are believed to have followed Gvardiol closely with the idea of signing him. Manchester City, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool are the clubs mostly mentioned in that aspect, and the player himself recently spoke about the latter as his “dream move”.

Apparently, the Bundesliga club are so determined to keep hold of the 21-year-old Croatia international at least until 2024, that even an offer of €100m for his services wouldn’t make them change their mind.

Gvardiol joined Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb in 2021 for a reported fee of around €19m, and has gone on to represent the club on 78 occasions, scoring five goals. He played a big part in Croatia’s impressive World Cup campaign, earning a bronze medal for his country.
