Lewandowski likely to stay at Dortmund

The Independent understand that Robert Lewandowski has been told that he will not be allowed to join Manchester United, just days after having his dream move to Bayern Munich blocked.

Both clubs were keen to sign the 24 year old, who scored thirty-six goals in all competitions last season, including ten on route to the Champions League final.

Lewandowski, who has made no secret of his desire to leave the Westfalenstadion, now looks certain to stay with Jurgen Klopp’s side until contract expires next summer.

New Manchester United manager David Moyes is now likely to focus on securing the future of Wayne Rooney, who has been linked with a move away from the English champions since Sir Alex Ferguson claimed the forward had handed in a transfer request.

However, the England international has since denied that he formally asked to leave the club, and is expected to report for duty on July 1st.
