Ligue 1 hotshot hints at La Liga move; Juventus accuse Chelsea over Lucas Piazon

Ligue 1 hotshot hints at La Liga move

Lorient striker Kevin Gameiro has hinted at a move to Spanish La Liga, in the midst of interest from Valencia and Sevilla.

The 24-year-old striker has been topping the goalscoring charts in Ligue 1 for a couple of years, which led to him becoming a target for a number of European clubs.

Gamiero’s current contract at Lorient expires in June 2012, meaning that he is likely to be sold the following summer.

Sevilla had a bid rejected for the striker in January, but los Rojiblancos now see Gameiro as the perfect replacement for Luis Fabiano.

Few days ago, the Frenchman mentioned his possible predecessor via his Twitter feed.

“Luis Fabiano will go to Brazil to play for Sao Paulo. I wish you luck. You are a great striker.

Just few hours later he posted:

”I am trying to learn Spanish. I have a CD and a book.”

This basically means that the 24-year-old is keen on a move to La Liga despite interest from Milan, Valencia, Villarreal, Bordeaux and PSG.

Lorient are holding out for €7 million, but Sevilla plan to reduce the cost by including one of their own players in the transfer.

Gameiro has proved his goalscoring abilities in French Ligue 1 and he should have no problems adapting to Sevilla’s slick passing game.

Juventus accuse Chelsea over Lucas Piazon

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta has accused Chelsea of unethical behaviour in their bid to sign Sao Paulo youngster Lucas Piazon.

The Bianconeri were keen on the 17-year-old attacking midfielder but he eventually opted for Chelsea, after the Blues offered him a long-term deal worth around €1 million per season.

Juve chief Beppe Marotta blasted Chelsea for splashing out the cash on such a young player.

“We’re actually proud that we haven’t signed Piazon under these conditions. It would have been unethical to pay a minor a salary in the region of €1million,” Marotta told Tuttosport.

“What would his future team-mates be thinking? Players who have yet to sign a professional contract.

“It’s hypocritical to argue that players earn too much money nowadays and then criticise our decision not to meet Piazon’s demands.”

The 17-year-old is seen as one of the hottest prospects in Brazil, despite having yet to play a senior game.

Liverpool keen on La Liga defender

Liverpool are readying bid for Osasuna full-back Nacho Monreal, Daily Mail reports.

The Reds have entered the market in the search for a left-back and they have already enquired about Jose Enrique and Emilio Izaguirre.

However, Liverpool director of football strategy, Damien Comolli has been alerted of Nacho Monreal’s potential following the Spaniard’s impressive displays in La Liga this season.

Comolli watched the 26-year-old in action and he is thought to be preparing a summer bid for the Osasuna star.

The asking price could prove to be a stumbling block as Osasuna want £9 million for the defender, so Liverpool could easily turn to one of the cheaper options.

The Reds might not be willing to pay a hefty fee for the player with little experience at the biggest stage, although they are likely to test Osasuna’s resolve with a summer bid.

Monreal already has four Spanish caps to his name and he is regarded as a player with a lot of potential.

I’m not very fond of the way Roman splashes all his cash, but I do admire his ambition to make this club Champions. When an owner would rather reinvest in the game rather than pocket the money himself, I think it’s a win-win situation for all…except to the lowest bidder. Are we really going to complain about fair-play and free-market capitalism Juve?
