Liverpool give up Wijnaldum hope

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Liverpool have given up on trying to keep hold of Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.

The Dutchman has been holding out on signing a new deal with the Reds, leaving fans to wonder whether or not he is trying to force through a move to Barcelona. While we can’t get any definitive answers on that one way or the other, this season gives us every reason to believe he would be interested in a new challenge.

Between his own performances and Liverpool’s shortcomings there is clearly going to be motivation behind the prospect of pursuing something new, and we can’t say that we blame him all that much.

The issue for Liverpool is that they need to be bringing more bodies in as opposed to shipping them out. Sure, Wijnaldum isn’t the first player on the teamsheet, but he’s definitely still a valued member of the first team.
