Competition: Coppa Italia

Market: Luis Muriel to score anytime

Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport

Looking to extend their Coppa Italia adventure on Thursday night, a high-flying Atalanta will welcome Cagliari to the Gewiss Stadium in midweek.

Starting with the hosts, laying down another thumping marker over the weekend, Atalanta should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Last seen picking up a rampant 4-1 win against Benevento on the road, La Dea have won each of their three Serie A contests since returning from the festive break. Holding their usual reputation for their free-scoring displays in the final third, it is certainly worth keeping an eye out for attacking MVP, Luis Muriel. Enjoying what has been a real purple patch over the past month, the 29-year-old once again got himself on the scoresheet over the weekend. Spearheading an Atalanta side that have already racked up 12 strikes since opening the New Year, Muriel has found the net in his last five appearances on the bounce, recording six goals.

As for the visitors, while Atalanta might find themselves enjoying a real New Year purple patch, Cagliari are enduring what is a worrying rut. Freefalling down the Serie A table and now firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, the Islanders were last seen over the weekend when getting hit with a 1-0 loss away at Fiorentina. Along with heading into Italy’s festive break last month with a dramatic 3-2 defeat against Roma, Eusebio Di Francesco’s men have now lost their last four straight meetings against Serie A opposition. Without a win to their name since the end of November, Cagliari should also be concerned by their most recent meeting against the midweek hosts. Making the trip to the Gewiss Stadium back in October, Gli Isolani were hit with a thumping 5-2 defeat and we’re backing a similar outcome on Thursday night.
