Germany international striker Lukas Podolski will be moving to Japan at the end of the current season, it was confirmed today.

Former Bayern Munich and Arsenal striker is set to leave Turkish giants Galatasaray this summer in a €2.6 million transfer to Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

Galatasaray confirmed the transfer news on their website, adding that Japanese club will pay additional €200,000 for the German’s transfer if the Turkish heavyweights secure place in the Champions League group stage for next season.

The 31-year-old forward joined Galatasaray back in 20915 and has so far won the Turkish Cup and two Turkish Super Cups in his two seasons with the club. Podolski followed the club’s official announcement with a post on social media confirming the move to J-League club Vissel Kobe himself.

Podolski went on to explain that his decision to leave is by no means directed against Galatasaray, but a decision made for a new challenge.

The 2014 World Cup winner won 129 caps for Germany before retiring after the Euro 2016.
