Former Newcastle United forward Albert Luque has admitted that he is delighted to have returned to Spanish football.
The 30 year old has joined Malaga after being released by Ajax this summer.
“I received several offers from both Spanish and foreign clubs, but my first option has always been Málaga,” Luque told Marca.
“Now I am really excited about the prospect of playing in Spain again. I am very pleased and want to do things right.
“At first I had a meeting with Van Basten, who told me I was part of his plans, but I injured myself during pre-season and was out for two weeks and that made him change his mind.
“Then we had another meeting to speak about me leaving the team and looking for a way out.
“After that I want to bounce back to my best level, the one I had when I played in Spain. Both the club and myself made efforts and I’m hopeful we are going to experience a good year.â€Â
