Macheda set for Spain switch?

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda could be set for a move to La Liga, according to the Daily Star.

The 22 year old, who was forced to cut-short his loan spell with Championship side Doncaster Rovers after sustaining a hamstring injury, alerted a number of clubs to his form in just five games with Paul Dickov’s men.

He fired in two goals on his first start for the club last month – a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, before netting the only goal in a win against Sheffield Wednesday the following weekend.

Rovers are keen on re-signing the Italian once he returns to fitness, but they face stiff competition from Rayo Vallecano, who are amidst an injury crisis to their frontline.

Macheda, who has also had brief spells with Stuttgart, Queens Park Rangers and Sampdoria, has expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford, citing boyhood club Lazio as his preferred destination.
