Malaga recruit Egor Filipenko

La Liga side Malaga have announced on their official website that they have completed the signing of Belarus defender Egor Filipenko from BATE Borisov.

The 26-year-old becomes club’s first signing of the January transfer window, while star striker Roque Santa Cruz has left to join Mexican side Cruz Azul.

Filipenko has joined los Boquerones for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a contract until June 2017.

The experienced centre-back has spent last two years as a BATE Borisov footballer, joining the club after a successful loan spell from Spartak Moscow.

It was at BATE that Filipenko had begun his professional career, while he also featured for Tom Tomsk and Sibir Novosibirsk.

His new employers Malaga are doing much better than expected in Spanish La Liga, having climbed to seventh in the overall standings, with los Boquerones priced at 9/5 to see off Villarreal at their La Rosaleda next weekend.
