Man Utd not untouchable, says Allardyce

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce said on Friday that he is adamant Manchester United are not untouchable despite the European champions’ sensational winning run.

Allardyce’s side travel to Old Trafford on Saturday as heavy underdogs following United’s 14-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

United moved five points clear at the top of the table with a 3-0 win over Fulham on Wednesday and have now have kept 14 successive clean sheets in the league.

It is a remarkable run that has seen United talked about as potential winners of five trophies in one season, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger describing them as “untouchable”.

But Allardyce believes they are still fallible. “They are formidable but not untouchable and somewhere along the line they will drop a point or concede a goal and lose a match,” he said.

“But this is the best form of the season. Many games throughout the early part of the season were a struggle for them but they came through those and that is why they are the best team.

“When they don’t deserve to win they still win and when they are in the mood they can take you apart.”

As well as leading the Premier League, United are in the League Cup final, through to the last 16 of the Champions League and FA Cup quarter-finals.

Allardyce acknowledges that a repeat of last season’s Premier League and Champions League double would see Sir Alex Ferguson’s current squad crowned as the best in his 23-year reign.

“Another double or better will say to everyone in the world that this is the best team Sir Alex has had,” Allardyce said.

“Their consistency and capabilities to win trophies at the highest level will prove that is the case.”
