Once again turning our attention to the midweek Nicaraguan Premier League fixtures, league leaders and defending champions Managua will host a struggling Deportivo Ocotal late on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Managua may have put in a sluggish display last week and only played out a 0-0 stalemate against bottom half Real Madriz on the road, the reigning champions still sit in pole position to lift their second crown this year. Still holding a three-point buffer against Real Estelí, despite playing out back-to-back draws, Los Leones Azules do find themselves in the midst of an eight-match unbeaten run, a run that stems back to the start of March. Despite only managing a single shot on goal on their travels last weekend, Managua do hold what is a fearsome record in front of their own supporters. In fact, including a 2-1 win against top-two contenders Diriangén last month, Wednesday’s hosts are remarkably unbeaten in their last 15 consecutive appearances on home soil, a run that stems back to September. Also winning six of their seven home matchups since opening 2020, there is no doubt that Managua should be looking to make a return to winning ways in midweek.

As for the visitors, also only managing to pick up their own stalemate thanks to what was a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers Deportivo Las Sabanas on home soil last week, Ocotal find themselves in the midst of a real rut. Without a win in their last five Premier League appearances and losing four of those contests, only their goal difference currently stops Wednesday’s guests from falling to the foot of the table. Landing just a sole victory in their eight outings over the past month, there is no doubt that Head Coach Randall Moreno will be most concerned by his side’s continued issues on the road. Including back-to-back 2-0 defeats against Real Madriz and Diriangén, Deportivo Ocotal have lost each of their last four away fixtures across all competitions and have landed just a sole away strike in over 450 minutes of action.
