With the coronavirus pandemic still wreaking havoc, we have once again turned our attention to this weekend’s Nicaraguan Premier League fixtures. Hoping to extend their buffer at the top of the table, defending champions Managua will make the trip to a struggling Las Sabanas late on Saturday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Las Sabanas may have managed to snatch a hard-fought point against play-off contenders Municipal Jalapa earlier in the week, the Whites still find themselves in the midst of an extended rut. Also only managing to play out a lackluster 0-0 draw against fellow strugglers Deportivo Ocotal earlier in the month, Head Coach Jorge Vanegas finds his side holding just a one-point buffer from slipping to the foot of the table. Remarkably landing just a sole Premier League victory in their last 13 attempts, a run that stems all the way back to the 2nd of February, Las Sabanas have also managed to record just a single victory in their previous 10 appearances front of their own supporters.

As for the visitors, picking up a 2-1 win against Deportivo Ocotal in midweek, despite playing the second half with 10-men, Los Leones Azules once again find themselves holding a three-point buffer at the top of the table and have extended on a glittering purple patch. The defending champions find themselves in the midst of an eight-match unbeaten run across all formats, a run that stems back to the start of March. Opening Saturday’s contest as a rightful favorite with the bookmakers, Managua will also be boosted by their previous meetings against the Whites. Including landing a 4-1 win when the two sides faced off last month, this weekend’s guests also picked up a 4-0 romp when they met last season. Given the recent gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing an away victory late on Saturday night.
