Manchester City have bid rejected for Jose Maria Gimenez

Spanish daily newspaper AS has learned that Manchester City have had an official offer turned down for Atletico Madrid starlet Jose Maria Gimenez.

With Matija Nastasic no longer in the first team plans of manager Manuel Pellegrini, the Citizens aim to add a new central defender to their ranks and they seem to have set their sights on the Uruguayan defender.

According to AS, Manchester City even submitted an official proposal for the player’s services few days ago, but their €22 million bid was swiftly rejected.

Los Colchoneros see Gimenez as a great prospect for the future and worthy replacement for his compatriot Diego Godin, who continues to be linked with Vicente Calderon exit.

The 19-year-old joined Atletico from Danubio in the summer of 2013 and he only made one league appearance in his first season at the club.

Gimenez then largely impressed playing for Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup and has started four La Liga games this term, deputizing for injured Joao Miranda.
