Manchester United edged past Aston Villa on Sunday to keep their Premier League top four surge going strong.

In a meeting between two of English football’s finest, Manchester United emerged victorious by one goal to nil against Aston Villa. It was a competitive affair but in the end, Erik ten Hag’s men got themselves over the finish line.

Today, we’re going to take a look at some of our biggest takeaways from what went down.

Bruno’s landmark

Bruno Fernandes was the man who scored the winning goal for Manchester United and in doing so, he scored the 100th goal of his career. The Portuguese sensation has a habit of being a bit hot and cold from time to time but when he’s on his finest form, you could make the argument that he’s unstoppable. Yesterday, when it really mattered the most, he showed up and put Villa to the sword.

Villa’s reality check

Aston Villa’s 10-game unbeaten run has officially come to an end. Unai Emery was able to do something really special with the boys from the second city and because of that, they are now in a great position to qualify for Europe. With that being said, this was certainly a big reality check for them. They weren’t really able to assert dominance in the manner they desired, and it’ll be interesting to see how they pick themselves up.

United mean business

Even with all of the injuries, suspensions and fixture congestion, Manchester United are still one of the best teams in England. They are playing like a team that means business and they’re playing like a team that feels confident in themselves. We aren’t saying they’ll be challenging for the title next season, but what we are saying is that the sleeping giant is slowly starting to wake up.
