Manchester United cut Smalling price

According to a recent report from Sky Italia, Manchester United have slashed their asking price for defender Chris Smalling.

The Englishman appears to be on the verge of a permanent move to Roma after a successful loan spell with the Serie A club. The Red Devils had initially been asking for a fee of around €20 million, but the belief now is that they have trimmed that down to just €12 million.

Some will see that as a bargain, whereas other United fans will continue to claim that Smalling is the kind of defender that they could still benefit from at Old Trafford – whether it be as a starter or as a backup option.

We always knew that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was going to be making a lot of big moves throughout the summer as his club continues to try and compete in an increasingly difficult Premier League landscape. If Smalling goes, some will wonder what that means for the depth of their squad heading into the new season.
