Mancini regrets not signing De Rossi

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has admitted interest in Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

The Citizens have been linked with a move for Roma stalwart, but instead opted to sign Owen Hargreaves on a free transfer.

Roberto Mancini has now revealed his admiration for the Italy international.

“De Rossi is one of the greatest midfielders in the world, I have always said this,” Mancini told Italian radio station Rete Sport.

“But, he is a Roman and a Romanista, and so I do not think he will ever leave Roma.

“He is a player that we liked, but we could not spend any more, also because of financial fair play rules, and so we got Owen Hargreaves instead.”

Mancini then turned his attention to unsettled striker Carlos Tevez.

“I have never had any problems with Tevez. He is still 27 years old and he is not at the end of his career.

“He want to go away to be closer to his family, but having someone like Tevez in the team means 20 goals a season.”
