Competition: A-League

Market: Melbourne City win

Odds: 21/20 @ Bet 365

Knowing that another victory on Friday morning will see them reclaim their spot at the top of the A-League, a free-scoring Melbourne City will welcome Perth Glory to AAMI Park.

Starting with the hosts, bagging the most dramatic of 3-2 wins away at Western Sydney last week thanks to an injury-time strike, the mood around AAMI Park remains at a high and some have tipped the Blues as title contenders this season. Knowing that three points on Friday would see them leapfrog Sydney to top spot, Head Coach Erick Mombaerts has seen his side taste defeat just once since opening the 2019/2020 campaign and they have now won five of their last six matchups, a run that stems back to the 12th of October. Even more impressive, Melbourne have won each of their opening three matches in front of their own supporters and they should be confident of extending that tally on Friday.

As for the visitors, while Perth may have shocked many by lifting their second A-League crown last season, the Purples have since come crashing back down to earth. Putting in another sluggish display in their 1-0 defeat away at Melbourne Victory last week, Head Coach Tony Popovic is coming under some real scrutiny after seeing his side win just one of their opening seven matches this year. On a worrying run of form that has seen them fail to win any of their last four appearances and losing three of those matchups, Friday’s trip to AAMI Park should prove to be yet another unenviable task.
