Competition: A-League

Market: Melbourne City win

Odds: 23/20 @ Bet 365

With Melbourne bragging rights up for grabs on Friday morning, City will welcome a struggling Victory to AAMI Park looking to extend their buffer in the AFC Champions League spots.

Starting with the hosts, while the Sky Blues may have been hit with a 3-1 defeat away at Adelaide last week, there is no doubt that City will be glad to make a return to AAMI Park on Friday morning. Once again sat in pole position to land a top-two finish this year, Head Coach Erick Mombaerts has seen his squad win five of their opening seven matches on home soil and the mood in his camp should still be on a high. If City are to make a return to winning ways and pick up Melbourne bragging rights, then fans around AAMI Park will be calling on leading marksman Jamie Maclaren to lead their charge. With 13 A-League goals this season and averaging a strike per appearance, the former Hibernian striker should be relishing Victory’s arrival this week.

As for the visitors, despite booking a top-two finish and a spot in the AFC Champions League last season, Victory have drastically struggled to find much form this time around. Failing to win any of their last four A-League appearances, including a 3-0 hammering at home against Sydney last month, caretaker boss Carlos Pérez Salvachúa has seen his side continue to show some rather glaring issues at the back. Battling it out at the foot of the table, Victory have recorded just a sole clean sheet since the middle of December and they have now shipped nine goals in just their last four A-League appearances. Given the recent gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing a home victory and local bragging rights for the Sky Blues on Friday morning.
