Miccoli talks up Palermo stay

Veteran forward Fabrizio Miccoli has moved to deny speculations linking him with a summer exit from Renzo Barbera by admitting he would like to extend his contract with Palermo.

The 32-year-old, whose contract with the Rossanero is set to expire at the end of the season, recently admitted he was pondering his future after yet another disappointing season at Renzo Barbera.

Palermo finished the Serie A season in 16th place to the disappointment of everybody at the club.

Miccoli was subsequently linked with a number of big Italian clubs as well as his hometown club Lecce, but it appears the diminutive forward will be staying at Renzo Barbera after all.

“My objective is to stay at Palermo,” Miccoli told Sky Sport Italia. “I will soon meet with Zamparini and we’ll make the decision together.”

Miccoli has spent last five years at Renzo Barbera and once again he has been the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season.

The highly rated forward scored 16 goals and produced 13 assists in just 28 Serie A games this season.
