Two sides who turn their attention back to Coupe de France duties in midweek, Monaco will welcome Metz to the Stade Louis II on Tuesday evening.
Starting with the hosts, marking their return from March’s international break over the weekend, Monaco really couldn’t have picked up a better result in preparation for their midweek meeting. Welcoming Metz to the Stade Louis II while on Ligue 1 duties, Les Monégasques picked up a thumping 4-0 win on home soil and the mood in their camp should be at a real high. Really finding their feet since bringing in former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovač, the resurging French giants sit in pole position to secure a European return this season. With some even in their camp still believing that they can lift a piece of silverware this year, Monaco have certainly bounced back from that 1-0 loss against Strasbourg last month. Unbeaten in their last eight contests on home soil and landing back-to-back 4-0 wins on either side of the international break, Tuesday’s hosts should be looking to lay down a similar marker.
As for the visitors, while Metz might have shocked many across France after what was an eye-catching start to the 2020/21 campaign, The Maroons have shown some issues on either side of the international break. Marking their return to action on Saturday when they made the trip to the Stade Louis II, Frédéric Antonetti’s side were hit with that 4-0 drumming and have come tumbling down in the Ligue 1 table. With their outside European ambitions taking what should be a critical blow, the one-time Lille boss has seen his struggling squad muster just a single point from their last four top-flight matchups.
