Neuer to retire from international football?

According to a recent report from Sport Bild, Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer could retire from international football in the aftermath of next year’s European Championships. It’s been well documented that Neuer is considering his options both with club and country, but few could’ve imagined that it would be quite this serious.

Neuer certainly isn’t on the same level that he was just a few short years ago, although some still consider him to be one of the best goalkeepers in world football. Regardless of whether or not you feel that way, though, there’s no way of denying the impact that he has had on the game over the course of the last decade or so.

He still seems to have some miles left in the tank, so if this does turn out to be true, perhaps he’ll be doing it in order to give himself more longevity at club level.
