Newcastle 5/4 to beat Aston Villa in Wednesday’s Premier League matchup

Competition: Premier League

Market: Newcastle win

Odds: 5/4 @ Bet 365

Looking to build off of what was a rampant display over the weekend, Newcastle will welcome relegation scrappers Aston Villa to an empty St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, shocking almost everyone across the Premier League and picking up a rampant 3-0 win against European chasers Sheffield United, Newcastle appear to have found their feet under Steve Bruce. With an FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City on the horizon, the one-time Sunderland boss finds his side in the midst of a three-match winning run either side of the break and the mood in their camp should be at a season-high. Knowing that three more points in midweek could see them break into the top-10, fans around the North East will be most impressed by their side’s continued displays at the back. Recording another clean sheet against the Blades on their Premier League return over the weekend, Bruce’s side have now recorded four top-flight clean sheets on the bounce, by far their brightest defensive run of the season so far.

As for the visitors, watching Chelsea grab two second-half strikes in the space of a couple of minutes and hit with a devastating 2-1 defeat at Villa Park, Dean Smith’s men find themselves in the midst of a real rut. Handed what was a hugely flattering point against the Blades on their return to action last week, the former Brentford boss still finds his side sat in the bottom-three and on a run of form that has seen them lose six of their last seven appearances. Without a top-flight win to their name since January and entering the enforced break with a 4-0 drumming at the King Power, Villa have continued to gain a worrying reputation for their glaring issues at the back. Shipping another brace on Sunday afternoon and no Premier League outfit shipping more than their 58 goals this season, the relegation scrappers could be in for another tough test in midweek.
