Newcastle in for David Luiz

Newcastle United are set to make a sensational swoop for Chelsea defender David Luiz, according to the Metro.

Earlier this week Arsenal were linked with a £25m move for the Brazil international and now the struggling Tyneside club have thrown their case, a loan deal would be more likely.

Luiz is currently nursing a knee problem and has only featured once since an alleged dispute with Blues manager Antonio Conte back in October.

Should the thirty year old move to St. James’s Park, he would be reunited with Rafael Benitez, for whom he played for for six months during his first spell at Stamford Bridge and together they won the Europa League.

Over both periods, Luiz has racked up almost two hundred appearances in all competitions for the reigning Premier League champions, scoring fifteen goals.

As well as that success in the Europa League, he has helped them win the FA Cup, Premier League and the Champions League.
