Newcastle in talks over Pléa deal

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle United are in advanced discussions with French club Nice over a move for Alassane Pléa. The 25-year-old forward has flown under the radar with most top European sides, despite the fact that he’s been scoring goals in the same league as forwards like Neymar and Edinson Cavani. He’s been with Nice for four years now, after spending five years with Olympique Lyonnais from the youth system all the way up to the first team.

Newcastle have been in the market for a ‘marquee’ striker for what feels like an eternity, as they attempt to push away from being relegation contenders into becoming a solidified top half team in the Premier League once again. It won’t happen overnight, but Pléa has proven himself to be a forward who can spring something out of nothing, which is always going to be beneficial when you’re playing in a division as unpredictable as the Premier League.
