Newcastle interested in Smalling

According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is interested in making a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

The Magpies’ potential takeover may not have gone through, but many are hoping that they’ll still be able to bring in a few new faces during the summer transfer window. Bruce looks set to lead the club into the new season, and as such, he’ll be going after players that he believes can improve the first team squad under his guidance.

Smalling looked set to extend his stay with Italian side Roma after a successful loan spell with the club, but now, it seems like that idea is dead in the water. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t appear to be interested in keeping Smalling on the books either, which could quite easily open the door for him to go elsewhere – potentially across to another Premier League side.
