Another weekend of Premier League action has been and gone as clubs continue to build off the back of the winter break. One particularly intriguing clash that went down last night took place at the City Ground, as Nottingham Forest hosted Chelsea.

In the end, Forest and the Blues shared the points – and these are the big takeaways we had from the game.

No confidence or cohesion

Outside of good fortune or a one-off moment of magic, there’s just nothing in Chelsea’s style of play that inspires any confidence. They lack a natural striking unit up top, they continue to let their guard down at inopportune moments, and they can never really seem to link up in the way players of this quality should. Ultimately, the hosts probably would’ve been disappointed had they not taken advantage of that.

Forest’s home spirit

Nottingham Forest have now gone six games unbeaten at home in all competitions. While that alone isn’t going to be enough to save them, it’s a testament to the work done by Steve Cooper and his backroom staff. They never stopped fighting here and probably should’ve even gone on to get three points, but as a base for trying to get out of the relegation zone, this was precisely the kind of outing they needed.

Potter needs time

A lot of fans are already starting to pile the pressure onto the shoulders of Graham Potter. To an extent, we understand that football fans can be quite reactionary. Unfortunately for them, it still doesn’t add up to a logical line of thinking. This is a club that needs time to start working in the system that Potter wants to employ and in order to do that, they need to give him until at least the start of next season – unless things start to go terribly south.
