Christian Pulisic is hands down one of the most exciting prospects in world football at the moment.

And as the American wonderteen continues the preparations for the new season with his team Borussia Dortmund now would be a great time to reflect on the fact that the host of Europe’s top clubs are vying for Pulisic’s signature.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a frustrating season with both his club and country with Borussia Dortmund finishing fourth in the Bundesliga standings and the United States national team missing out on the World Cup in Russia this summer.

Glowing Spark in Dortmund’s Disappointing Season

Still, on the personal level, it’s fair to say Christian Pulisic kept the bar high and performed right up to the overall standard and quality he boasts as one of the biggest talents in the game today.

He made the total of 38 competitive appearances during the 2017/18 season with Dortmund, scoring eight goals and registering as many assists along the way. Pulisic amassed 2,300 minutes of Bundesliga football which was a significant increase to his last season’s numbers. Such a substantial playing time speaks volume of the 19-year-old’s growth in stature and maturity, as well as his role in the team.

Pulisic’s efforts were insufficient to help struggling Dortmund who barely made it into the top four and his overall exploits were unable to show signs of pronounced progress during the last campaign.

As an attacking midfielder, Pulisic’s duties go well beyond scoring goals and his impact was measured by the ability to drive the team forward by putting in a string of composed and mature performances which would go on to spread confidence around his teammates.

Player of Tantalising Ability

And although Pulisic’s seemingly tender frame could be misleading, the American wonderboy is recognised by fans and pundits alike as a player who possesses amazing first touch and tactical awareness. His speed of thought and decision making are definitely one of his top traits and there is a little wonder in seeing Europe’s top clubs flocking to sign such an intelligent asset.

Christian Pulisic’s versatility and the ability to fill in a number of positions in the final three – both right wing and centre-forward – are arguably the biggest attributes which saw the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and most recently Real Madrid take notice of his emerging presence.

His latest appearance for Dortmund – a brace in the 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday – offers great proof of the lad’s quality and exceptional ability. His performances need to be analysed through the context of his age group and knowing he’s only 19 will suggest time is ahead of him and whoever gets to grab him – this summer or not – will be rewarded with a proper gem.

What Does the Future Hold?

Pulisic’s imminent future remains a mystery.

Liverpool as the second favourites behind Manchester City with 5/1 to win the Premier League title next season have been credited with a long-term interest in Pulisic and remain in pole position to sign the talented American.

Bayern Munich are known to be preying on the top talent from Bundesliga and have to be taken into account, whereas Chelsea are exploring a number of targets and will not be included in the list of genuine contenders.

As for the Champions League holders Real Madrid it is a completely different story. Los Blancos are actively seeking a marquee signing to fill in the void Cristiano Ronaldo caused with his Juventus move and Christian Pulisic could just be the perfect fit.

He’s young and exciting both from the sporting and marketing point of view. His possible transfer to Santiago Bernabeu would allow Real Madrid to further tap into the growing American market which could effectively boost the club’s brand beyond the conceivable limits.

The only question that remains is which club will Pulisic choose and at what time will he decide to make the next logical step in his aspiring career.

Perhaps this summer already?
