N’Zonzi’s release clause rises to €40 million

Sevilla star midfielder Steven N’Zonzi has been the subject of intense transfer speculation throughout the January market, with the likes of Barcelona, Juventus and the host of Premier League clubs all believed to be eyeing a winter move for the French international.

N’Zonzi had a release clause of €30 in his contract with Rojiblancos, but the 28-year-old has signed a one-year contract extension on Tuesday which will see the experienced enforcer stay with the Rojiblancos until 2020 and his release clause raise by additional €10 million to newly-set €40 million.

Steven N’Zonzi moved to Sevilla in the summer of 2015 from Stoke City and has gone on to become one of the most important players for trophy-laden side under former coach Unai Emery.

The Frenchman made 37 starts in all competitions last season to help the Andalusian side win Europa League title.

The 28-year-old France international has this season made 18 La Liga appearances under Jorge Sampaoli, scoring two goals in the process.
