In what looks like it could be a lively encounter on Friday morning, Adelaide United will welcome Melbourne Victory to Coopers Stadium.

Starting with the hosts, while a stellar run of form at the start of the season may have shocked many around Coopers Stadium, Adelaide have come crashing back down to earth. Putting in another worrying performance in their 3-0 hammering away at Perth last time out, Gertjan Verbeek’s men are in the midst of a woeful four-match losing run. Unsurprisingly, a huge part of United’s continued issues entering the New Year has come down to some rather glaring issues at the back. Including shipping a trio of goals at home against Western Sydney last month, Adeliade have shipped at least a pair of strikes in each of their previous four defeats.

As for the visitors, shipping two injury-time strikes side away at bottom half strugglers Central Coast last week and hit with a 3-2 defeat on the road, Melbourne Victory have since come crashing back down to earth after landing back-to-back victories. Still miles off of mounting any kind of title charge, the Blues have won just three of their last 10 A-League matchups and have continued to show some glaring inconstancies. Including being hit with a 3-1 thumping away at Western Sydney last month, Marco Kurz’s men have also lost four of their last five matches away from AAMI Park. With each of the last 11 combined matches between the two sides seeing over 2.5 strikes at full-time, we’re backing a similar outcome on Friday.
