Pep Guardiola rejects Ruben Neves rumours

Manchester City are said to be actively working on finding a long-term replacement for the 34-year-old defensive midfielder Fernandinho.

The Brazilian is widely expected to leave Etihad at the end of the season and Citizens are already making plans for life without the Brazilian.

English media have identified Ruben Neves as one player Pep Guardiola has supposedly identified as the perfect replacement for Fernandinho with reports going that far to claim the Spaniard will invest up to £100 million to get his hands of the Portuguese star.

Ruben Neves has been one of Wolves’ standout performers this season having already played 19 Premier League games and scoring two goals for the Molineaux based club.

The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the biggest midfield talents around but Pep Guardiola will not be investing that kind of money to bring in a new defensive midfielder.

He’s an excellent player but there are many clubs in the world, many holding midfielders in the world, and most of them can play here. That’s not the point. Most of them are under contracts. A month ago, I started reading – ‘Rúben Neves, £100m’. That is not going to happen, we are not going to pay £100m for a holding midfielder”, Guardiola said.

Manchester City play host to Wolves on Monday night and will have a chance to see Ruben Neves is direct action at the Etihad.

The Citizens have been installed as firm favourites to win the game with 1/6 betting odds.
