Competition: League One

Market: Plymouth win

Odds: 17/11 @ 888sport

With the chance to move within touching distance of the play-off spots, Plymouth will make the trip to relegation strugglers Northampton on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, throwing away the lead over the weekend and hit with a 2-1 defeat away at Swindon, Northampton find themselves in the midst of a real crisis. While the Midlands outfit might have managed to secure a League One return last summer, caretaker boss Jon Brady finds his temporary squad rooted to the foot of the third-tier table. Seen as the leading contender to be hit with an immediate League Two return this year, the Cobblers have remarkably failed to win any of their single 12 matchups since opening 2021. With their recent issues highlighted by that dramatic 4-3 defeat against MK Dons last month, Northampton have also gained a real reputation for their extended problems on home soil. Without a win at the PTS Academy Stadium since the end of December, it should also be noted that Tuesday’s hosts have failed to bag themselves a single goal on home soil in their last five straight appearances.

As for the visitors, while Northampton might be drastically struggling on their League One return this year, Plymouth have really gained a string of plaudits. Managing to make an immediate return to winning ways over the weekend with what was a stunning 4-3 victory at home against top-two chasers Lincoln, the Greens have their sights set on mounting a shock play-off charge again this season. Knowing that they have a golden chance on the road in midweek, Ryan Lowe’s side have lost just one of their previous 12 third-tier matchups, a run that stems all the way back to December 29th. With it appearing that their defeat against Peterborough last month was just a minor blip, Plymouth also hold an eye-catching record on the road. Including a 1-0 win against fellow play-off hopefuls Accrington Stanley, Tuesday’s guests are unbeaten in each of their last six straight contests away from Home Park.
