Competition: League One
Market: Plymouth Argyle win
Odds: 23/20 @ 888sport
With the chance to move within striking distance of the automatic spots this weekend, Plymouth will make the trip to a struggling Rochdale on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, hit with a deserved 1-0 loss away at Blackpool earlier in the week, Rochdale find themselves in the midst of a real League One relegation scrap. While Brian Barry-Murphy’s men might have managed to just about hang onto their third-tier status last year, the Dale open up this weekend’s contest holding just a two-point buffer from slipping into the drop zone. With it appearing that their 2-1 win against fellow strugglers Bristol Rovers when closing January was just a minor bounce, the Blues are now enduring a three-match League One losing run. With just a single win to their name since December 15th, Rochdale also hold a dreadful record on home soil. Including a 4-1 drumming against MK Dons earlier in the month, Saturday’s hosts have lost each of their last three matchups in Greater Manchester. Rochdale have also remarkably failed to win any of their last 14 straight contests at the Spotland Stadium.
As for the visitors, while Rochdale might find themselves in the midst of a relegation battle, Plymouth have only continued to impress many since stepping up last year. With their sights set on securing what would be shock back-to-back promotions this season, the Greens were last seen putting in another professional display last weekend. Knowing that victory in Greater Manchester on Saturday would move them within striking distance of the top-six, Ryan Lowe’s side picked up a 1-0 victory at home against Fleetwood last time out. Securing back-to-back third-tier wins, Plymouth are also unbeaten in all eight of their League One fixtures since opening 2021. Smelling a real chance this weekend, it should also be noted Lowe’s men have really caught the eye with their continued displays on the road. Unbeaten in their last five matchups away from Home Park, they have also taken points off of the likes of Sunderland, Portsmouth and Accrington Stanley.
